Night Soldiers is a serial strip that follows the life of a young teenager named Richard Kronos. Richard had a normal life, living with his father, and had a good chance at a football career. That is until a severe injury to his right leg crippled him for life. Medical doctors told him that there was nothing they could do to help him, so he turned to the clergy. When their attempts failed, he skeptically turned to a young woman named Susan “Shazell” Winters. Susan, a wiccan who possessed the ability to cast spells, enchanted a leg brace for Richard to wear. Much to his surprise, after putting on the leg brace, he was able to walk. He soon started warming up to the idea of wicca and to the paranormal, which was good, since he would need those beliefs in the future. Richard’s life wasn’t going to be going back to anything like it was before, but with Susan at his side, he is ready for whatever life has to dish out.
What life destines to dish out to the pair is nothing more than 'Sailor Moon meets Gundam Wing”!! An evil force has descended to their unsuspecting city, followed by an equalizing force for good, a force of good represented by an actual goddess who took both Richard and Shazell in as their agents, giving them special magicks for her and a high-octane powersuit for him, transforming the otherwise crippled Texan into a walking—and in some cases flying—can of whoop-ass.
Prepare for a Shojo story with Shonen rules! Gone are the cute schoolgirls in colorful costumes, thrown roses from boys in capes, and magic attacks that look more cute than effective. They've been sent home to their mamas so that the big boys can play. And trust me on this, they're going to need a whole lot of big guns!
Note to actual Wiccans: While Shazell has that one concession of that robe and pointy hat, everything else about her, especially her practices, are rooted in a through study in the pagan religions, which the author routinely researches in. How this research is retained during the transfer to the drawn page can be debatable, but I hope that the presentation is somewhat better than other television shows on Wicca. Online Notes on this research will be made available at a later date.
