This makes me really appreciate the Navy dumping OBL’s body in the ocean. Imagine what would happen if he were buried? Half of this planet’s Muslims’ll turn it into a shrine, and half of us Americans (including myself) would come and desecrate it nightly.

I referenced Dominic Deegan in this posting, and I’m making this comment by Mookie made on his page ( http://www.dominic-deegan.com/ ) which pretty sums up what the forums there can devolve into:

“Truth be told, I have an aversion to internet forums in general. For any reason, for any website, for anything, I get a tiny dose of anxiety whenever I click the “Forums” button. Sometimes I feel like a boxing glove is going to fly out of my monitor and punch me. I just get this constant vibe of negativity, whether it’s forums for a TV show, a video game, comic book or webcomic. This is the king of skin grating constant grind that I was talking about before. It’s the constant ragging and ragging on anything and everything in a negative life. It pretty much killed any desire for me to make web comics, because it’s too much work and for nothing but the constant snipping of negative remarks to look forward to. It can wear down even the toughest of skins. Believe me, I know. And I feel for Mookie in this area.

Appreciate the correction there.

I won’t say that there is no Racism any more. I’m just saying that it’s been overused. Sometimes to levels that stifle even civil discourse and divides people among racial lines. When that happens, the term gets cheapened severely. It eventually just comes off as a schoolyard taunt.

Beyond the racism charges, booing is fine. Heckling is not. Not something you do to the President, regardless of who he is. If any Democrat had done it during Bush’s term, there would have been a similar call to upbraid them.

But considering the only two other things Joe Wilson’s gotten any press for were 1) Accusing Strom Thurmond’s illegitimate daughter of lying (her mother was black and the accusation was proven correct) and 2) defending South Carolina’s right to continue to fly the stars and bars, it’s not as though there was absolutely no cause for the accusation. THIS IS NOT TO SAY I BELIEVE IT WAS RACIALLY MOTIVATED, but I don’t think it was a knee jerk reaction with no evidence to back it up. I also don’t mean to imply that Democrats don’t do things that dumb too. I remember Hillary talking to a black group and telling them the President worked Congress like they were a Plantation, which was really effing stupid.

tl;dr: I don’t think this was racially motivated but by the same token pretending racism is no longer a factor in the national dialogue is really naive. And it’s Godwin’s law.

Unspoken is the obvious for those who have any form of long-term memory: The same people who were dressing down Wilson are the same people who were offended by all those protesters at the town halls this year. Also, these same people were doing _the exact same thing_ to the Shrub at his _State of the Union Addresses_.

I would have done the “South Park” treatment, and said worse to the congress.
